Library 2.0

This network is for Library 2.0 Stuff

If anyone is using del.icio.us at their library, specifically as a component of their webpage, please email at roycekitts@gmail.com

I have some interest at my library and need to show some good examples.
Even if del.icio.us was a failure for you let me know that too.

Thanks.

I moved all important Library pages and our Internet Guide links to del.icio.us. But right now, it is "unofficial" since we haven't announced it or incorporated it into the library website. The links are at http://del.icio.us/SeminoleCountyLibrary.

Hi James,

Your Delicious sites look wonderful.

Some of my colleagues and I use Del.icio.us and FURL in addition to our web resources. See for example this course research guide where I select the most relevant sources for the guide, but link out to my del.icio.us long-list of additional sources: http://apps.carleton.edu/campus/library/find/guides/courses/?guide_...
As soon as our web development software allows us more flexibility to add RSS feeds, I'll add RSS feeds to my research guides to specifically tagged Del.icio.us and FURL lists.
Good luck and have fun!

Your site looks wonderful? I mean it doesn't look like the usual Delicious site with the list and how many others have the same thing? it looks more like the guides from your library web page?

Hi Royce,

The WebJunction listserv, Web4lib, has a big discussion on just this topic. I am planning on using delicious for my library's current "suggested web links" page, which is somewhat out of date and badly in need of some TLC.

I'll be interested to watch the discussion here too.

Cheers

Thanks Janice! I will have to say that I am constantly amazed at the job WebJunction is doing. I wonder what it is like to work there?

Hi Royce...just emailled ya. My site is del.icio.us!!!

This isn't my library's site, but on my own research site, I use an RSS feed parser to feed by del.icio.us links into my site. Here's an example: http://troyswanson.pbwiki.com/Dissertation%20Ideas (scroll down, and you will see the links. You may have to enable the java script on the page at the bottom of the page...this is a pbwiki issue.) I would like to eventually move my library's research guides into del.icio.us, utilize the rss feeds by tags, and use a parser (http://feed2js.org/) to put the feeds into our Web site. I haven't quite made it this far yet.

We recently added a widget from AddThis to our beta catalog design that allows users to add links to bibliographic records to a variety of social bookmarking sites, including del.icio.us. I'm attaching an image of how it looks in our beta catalog.

Penn Tags is the best example of adding social bookmarking utility to a catalog that I've seen. ACRLblog has a post about tagging and libraries from last year.

AddThis looks very cool. Thanks!

I switched my test subject guide (physics) from a Feed2js version of my del.icio.us links to a native del.icio.us scripting. I'm not all the way happy with the formating--the bullets don't always show up properly, but I like having just the one service to depend on.
