Library 2.0

This network is for Library 2.0 Stuff

Dear Colleagues,

I was in IFLA 2008, in Quebec Canada and Library 2.0 was the talk of the day. I would like to know more about Library 2.0 for purposes of information sharing and also to estblish how i can take it on in my information centre.

How different is it form other library processing programs like WinISIS

My take on Web 2.0, in a nutshell, is programs that enhance communication via the internet or intranet. WisISIS is a library management system if I remember correctly. While there do seem to be some examples of libraries enhancing their LMS with web 2.0 applications they are usually different things.

Web 2.0 applications can have a lot of uses in libraries, eg, you might use a blog to communicate to staff or clients, you could use a wiki for collaborative projects because everyone can sign in an contribute data (I have heard of a library that writes research papers for their clients and all the staff contribute parts with one person doing the final write up), a wiki can be used for procedures and policies because all staff involved can sign on and change them as needed, I know of a blog being used for staff to write in when they attend a staff development activity, and they are certainly used instead of newsletter a lot now. They are the only quick examples I can think of. There's much more being done.
Dear Julanne,

Thank you for this update. Indeed i was green about Web 2.0. Hope it is the same program as Library 2.0. Am going to check it out more and establish how we can use it in our communictions.

Is it open source of licenced?

Best regards,

Justine
And the main way of figuring out web 2.0 in libraries, of course, is to explore this site! People write about how they use these tools on here!

I finally buckled down and completed the 23 Things on CSLA's Web 2.0 tutorial. Now I'm conversant if not a convert. I am just old school enough that I see some of these apps as interesting and amazing, but huge time wasters......I love delicious, ...
