Library 2.0

This network is for Library 2.0 Stuff

Hi there.

I am new here and am glad to be here. I am preparing a conference ppt to be held in Jeju, Korea on 1st September. I am thinking of putting some current library applications of SN and proposed model for the libraries.

I attached my ongoing ppt. Please have a look and give me some useful comments on that.

thanks

Hi

Not sure how useful my comments are....but

I like slides 4-7, particularly 7.

Slide 26 talks about examples of Libraries on Twitter. You might want to include the following link http://twitterleague.com/view_league/252 - real time tracking of 500+ libraries on twitter, ranking by stats such as number of followers, follower/following , number of updates, first joined date etc.

Slide 30 is also nice since you link to http://library20.ning.com/profiles/blogs/mashup-your-librarys-twitter which is my post :) Would appreciate it though if you link to my regular blog post at http://musingsaboutlibrarianship.blogspot.com/2009/05/mashup-your-l... instead though.

Slide 40 says SungKyunKwan University: Use of Open API http://lib.skku.edu/index.ax , I'm very curious about how your university is using Open APIs, but the link doesn't work?

Overall though I think the presentation is going to be very overwhelming for people who are not into library 2.0. You also cover linked data which is another big topic.

Thanks a lot, Aaron.

Your comments were very useful. I did as you suggested. You are really good. How come you already know this area so much? http://lib.skku.edu/index.ax link is temp. not working I think. This morning I myself tried here in Seoul, but doesn't work. Linked data is as you suggested another big topic, but to mention semantic interoperability I have to mention it very briefly.

Again, thanks

I like this place. Keep in touch Aaron.

We've been stumbling around trying to figure all this Web 2.0 stuff and you and Tay seem to have a firm grasp. The slides were excellent. I learned a great deal by looking at the examples and links to the websites. I am sharing this information with some of my colleagues here at Eastern University.

I agree with Tay that some of the information presented will be overwhelming. We've been trying to ease our way into all of this through the use of Libguides (http://libguides.eastern.edu). This has our librarians using tools like Twitter, RSS, Facebook, Slideshare and others to create there subject guides.

I fear that some of the more traditional (not necessarily older) librarians are going to run into a wall. They may need to be overwhelmed. So, I feel that the more technical information is essential.

Are you presenting this soon? Will you consider a slidecast on Slideshare so that we can gain from your experience?

Thanks Mark. I am glad you liked it. Libguides is very interesting to me and I have to add it as an example of library applications of social networking. Yes, I do hope to present this stuff somewhere in English. I already did in Korean at a local conference here. I strongly urged librarians to be familiar with these new trends.

I'm not sure how much of a firm grip I have. But I only started to play with Library 2.0 in Oct last year. This was followed by a crazy period where I experimented with everything from opensearch plugins to Libx and library toolbars to greasemonket scripts, bookmarklets, widgets, rss, lifestream aggregating, microblogging (I had prior experience with wikis), and other social media tools. Kind of like my own "23 things" project...

There's still tons to learn (events related stuff with ical is something i haven't had the time to play with yet and playing with video/web cam and mobile stuff), but I think pretty soon you reach diminishing returns where you have caught up with the library 2.0 tools everyone is playing with and all you need to do is to keep on top of new stuff.

Hi, Aaron

Right. sometime it's hard to catch up with the emerging new technologies. But what is more impirtant thing is to have librarians bear in mind a mindset of openness by which every technology could be manipulated.
