Profile Information

Name of Your Library:
Chicago-Kent College of Law
About Me:
I've worked in several libraries and I'm finishing up my grad degree through UIUC's online MLS program. My current title is "Library Web Technologist" and I'm very busy making our library website prettier and far more user friendly. When that's done I hope to play around with more Web2.0 stuff too, but we need the basics first. I've been saying I want to be a librarian since I was a little kid. I like reading, helping people, learning, and lots of other good things.

Other links for me:
LinkedIn
Flickr
Facebook
LibraryThing
Goodreads
Diigo
What is Your Interest in Library 2.0 (not yes or no)
I like the user-driven innovation side of Library 2.0. I feel like the technology is learning to read my mind, it's so useful sometimes. :)

My Latest Project: Social Bookmarking with Diigo

If it's slow to load, here's an outline of what it covers:

1. Why is it useful?
2. How to get set up
3. How to start bookmarking using the Diigo toolbar
4. Using the Diigo website to share bookmarks
5. Who can use it?
6. Final Review: how does it work for you?

If this looks useful to you, please feel free to embed it or share it however you like. I've licensed it with the following creative commons license:

Who's Looking? - analyzing the "usability" of digital libraries through web statistics

Flickr's potential to act as a digital library has definitely been expanding with the many official projects showing up there this last year. And I hope we'll start to see some larger studies that compare traditional DL interfaces and the experiences these libraries have had on flickr, but until then it's also something I'd like to experiment with myself.

A little background: The Library of Congress posted just two sets of photos (a little under 5,000 images) from the… Continue

Webtoys I'm playing with...

I've been playing around on the web more lately and figured it might be a good idea to keep track of the things I've been doing/creating/whatever. A blog post on a Library 2.0 group site seems like as good a location as any.

Some of these tools are ones I was introduced to through my Media Literacy and Youth class, some I saw on blogs like Infodoodads, and others are new features of sites I've been using for a while, like Google Maps and photobucket. Most have ended up on the "… Continue

Playing with Spresent "tutorials" & presentations

I'm still finding spresent's "instant flash slideshows" a useful tool to integrate text, images, video, and sound files, though I'm sure there are more polished products out there. I thought I might as well link to all the various ones I've created since the list is getting longer and not all are linked under the same information anymore:

Web Flash Tutorials

I saw a post on spresent at Infodoodads a while back and thought it looked like a very nice, easy way to make more interactive web tutorials. So, when my boss saw that Chicago had been added to Google's Street View option and suggested I write something up for our Featured Resource Blog, I decided to start experimenting.

{edit: hmm... the embe

A Library exhibit "on" Flickr

I recently used flickr to put together a fairly crude digital version of an exhibit I set up at our library about Soviet Propaganda posters from World War II. That flickr page has much, much more information, but you can get a glimpse of it here:

If you click through to the flickr set and view each image

Hi Emily,
Thanks for the note. You're doing lots of exciting things. I thoroughly enjoyed your Social Bookmarking screencast. I wasn't familiar with diigo. I'll need to check it out when I have time. Thanks for the links to your Google maps mashup. A long time ago I did a mashup of our state depository libraries using Tagzania.
