Profile Information

Name of Your Library:
The New York Public Library
About Me:
Hello, I’m Paul Gabel. For the last eight years I've provided reference service for several departments at the Mid-Manhattan Library. To better my understanding of the profession, I enrolled at Pratt SILS in Fall 2007. In August 2009, I was promoted to Senior Librarian after completing the Masters program.

In the last year, my department The Picture Collection, has joined several divisions in the Research Libraries utilizing Web 2.0 applications to showcase eye-catching imagery. We recently used Voicethread to encourage school children to comment on our gallery of images that depicted life in ancient times. In addition, we are about to exhibit our first collection of images on the Library's Flickr Commons page.

Additional points about my life - I'm a video artist - and the work that I create tend to be poetic and experimental. With the collaboration and support of independent festivals audiences throughout Europe have seen my work through screenings and installations. I invite you to visit my personal website.

What is Your Interest in Library 2.0 (not yes or no)
Simply - I enjoy being a part of initiatives that bring audiences together through fun and enjoyment as they learn something along the way.
