I'd like to add two widgets to the front page of our community site. One would be a progress bar showing member contributions towards our goal. The second would be a track lane showing our 20 government agencies and who is leading in contributions...
Hi Ray,
I'm a teacher librarian & recently started a community based blog for getting boys to read - http://GettingBoysToRead.com. Please send me a friend request if you'd like to network, share ideas, and learn more about getting boys to read.
Not really. The readership just wasn't there, so I lost interest in doing all the emerging technology research. Well, actually I'm still blogging with my family on a family news blogsite. Tell me about your blogs.
Hi Ray, while I said I was interested in AW and an ILS merging for PTFS' s press release that unfortunately doesn't translate into SOU being interested, at least at this time. However, I am interested in investigating (over the next five years) a cheaper alternative to our current ILS. We, like most other libraries, spend an enormous amount of money on a system that no longer meets a majority of our needs. It's like being married to the Mafia.
Ray, thanks for that link. I haven't seen the Tagzania site before, though the map looks like the one Flickr uses. I like that you can search for custom maps here, that's the major weakness of the custom google maps - people aren't likely to find them. On the other hand, it's nice to be able to collaborate on one map so more than one person can update it. Can you do that with tagzania?
Hi Ray,
This sounds really interesting. You might take a look (if you haven't already) at the work the librarians in the U of C are doing - they created a wiki with tutorials, blog, online chat and so on .... http://www.lib.berkeley.edu/doemoff/govinfo/gov_online.html
would love to hear more about what you are doing as you get going,
libbie
hey, you might be interested in this mashup I did with Google Maps... Illinois Federal Depository Libraries. I was given an assignment in my reference class to find the closest federal depository library to my house, and was really frustrated with the official sources, I just copied & pasted the addresses into google maps to make this (after I ripped off the logo... )
The great thing is that once it's been created, other libraries can use it too... like this site from Loyola University in Chicago. We haven't added it to our library's website yet, but it'll be up there sometime in the future. For now, our gov docs librarian (who has a blog here) has forwarded it to the other gov docs people to use. :)
I'm currently babysitting a batch load into ArchivalWare for our newspaper project. I'm on Day 3 of loading, indexing, loading, & indexing. Then I need to find the two dozen clippings of more than 90,000 from this load that didn't get linked to the full page images. Happy-happy joy-joy!
Hi Ray, nice to hear from you! I work pretty closely with the government docs librarian here at UCLA and along with other reference librarians we are working on a data services plan for the university and we're planning to design a data/stats wiki. I am the OR for ICPSR and I go to the IASSIST conferences. I have gotten going with library 2.0 things - I am alomost ready to release an updated web site with online chat using Meebo - it was way easier than I thought it would be. Anyway, thanks for adding me and hope you will stay in touch.
