What is Your Interest in Library 2.0 (not yes or no)
I'm interested in any tool that will enable us to better serve our patrons. The idea that we can be sharing best practices with people all over the world in real time is mind-boggling.....especially for someone who actually used a main frame computer and punch cards once upon a time.

Second Life, Ad Nauseum

I’ve been hearing, ad nauseum,
about Second Life. Everyone and their brother is involved: flying
about, chatting with folks, even answering reference questions at the
library. I really didn’t get the appeal, but decided I should give it a
try on general principles.

So I jumped in. Made an avatar who looks like I’d like to, dressed her, and wandered around.

Hi Kathryn,

I do miss seeing "real" people on a daily basis! One of my job perks is the ability to get out to our member libraries and visit, but I'm afraid I don't do that as much as I'd like to. Something always seems to preempt the visits....but when I do get out, it's great.

Of course, we keep in touch via email...and we have a corporate blog that keeps folks updated (as well as my personal blog, should they be interested.) We haven't gotten any of them into IM yet, but we do use it in the building with each other.

Hi Mary Beth. I worked as a Community Information librarian about 10 years ago and LOVED it too.

I was a little frustrated, however, that my desk responsibilities didn't let me get out and mix with my community physically. Do you find that new web tools help you out with that - or do you have time scheduled in to actually get out there and meet the real folk?
