Metal Up Your Ass!

The other day I witnessed one of the funniest things I have ever seen in my life. Special Ed was sitting at one of our Internet workstations wearing headphones while surfing through the WWE’s website. After a while he found a video that really struck his fancy. He began thrashing his head violently as he [...]

Chlamydia

For everything there is a first time. Yesterday was the first time that we ever got a call from a pharmacy. The pharmacist asked us to fax over information about chlamydia for a young woman who was waiting there. The coworker who received the call had to ask me how we handle such transactions. I [...]

The Top 25 Most Played

This meme is for that cool librarian from Indianapolis, Blank Jane. Here are the top 25 songs in my iTunes: 1) Pain (Slayer Mix) – Four Star Mary 2) Bohemian Like You – The Dandy Warhols 3) The Wand – The Flaming Lips 4) Sound Of The Revolution – Lunatic Calm 5) Psalm for the Elks Lodge Last Call – [...]

Chris Has a Story…

The other night I was IMing with him and he conveyed this doozy of a Circulation story that is simply too choice not to share. So here it is in Chris‘ words copied directly from the IM window: This older woman — with blonde hair (not sure why that was) — came up to the desk [...]

Questionable Acquisitions

Today we acquired two copies of the book, Driving With Confidence: A Practical Guide to Driving With Low Vision. [blink] Our acquisitions guy saw the books and commented that chapter one should be how to distinguish a speed bump from a pedestrian. Is this book really a public service? LMAO! Angels and ministers of grace defend us… [...]

Just hang in there and don't let the economy get you down. We're both young enough to ride this bitch out. 2009 is going to be rough, but the tide will turn. Be Well Emer!

Oops - I had sort of forgotten, too! Thanks for the reminder. As for library school, it's going well, and I graduate in the spring. I can't remember if I'd mentioned here that I started working full-time at my public library last May, so it's nice...

Interest in Library 2.0
I'm always interested in how technology is being integrated into libraries, and for new uses of cutting edge tools... Like Ning. I enjoy helping people, and feel an incredible sense of satisfaction in doing so... Although you might not think so by reading my blog!

Montage-a-google Mashup

I just StumbledUpon this interesting mashup that makes a montage from any search term. I thought that this might be interesting to my fellow Library 2.0 members... Try it using the terms: Library 2.0, and Web 2.0. Enjoy!

The Social Life of Information

My library recently received a book donation and one of the books is The Social Life of Information, by John Seely Brown and Paul Duguid. I haven't had time to read it yet, however, from what I have read it seems that the authors conceptualized Web 2.0 in 2000, one year before Tim O'Reilly coined the term. Has anyone read this book? If so, what are your thoughts?

Socially Responsible Library 2.0

Here are a couple of easy ways for each of us to make a difference in this sad sorry world in which we live. Use the Yahoo powered Good Search and automatically donate (free to users) to a charity of your choice with each executed search. Also go to The Hunger Site and feed someone who's starving to death simply by clicking the link once each day.

Testing the Pipes

Has anyone experimented with Yahoo Pipes Yet? Yahoo Pipes lets users create their own mashups. I haven't had time to build any pipes, but I have been watching the service grow for a few months now. I've noticed that a couple of people have constructed a few Library 2.0 pipes:

http://pipes.yahoo.com/pipes/search?q=library+2.0&x=12&y=9

It doesn't get any more 2.0ish than this...

Oops - I had sort of forgotten, too! Thanks for the reminder. As for library school, it's going well, and I graduate in the spring. I can't remember if I'd mentioned here that I started working full-time at my public library last May, so it's nice to be finishing things while being employed, and feeling pretty safe about my job, as everyone else I know seems to be panicking. I SO CAN'T WAIT to be done with school. Working full-time, going to school half-time, and parenting two kids is not for the faint of heart. Still, it's clear that I'm smarter about some things now than I was before.

How are you? Got the winter library nutso blahs? Or hanging on by fingertips? Any suggestions for an excellent winter read?

I think I'll try to figure out how to aggregate this as a widget into my netvibes page, so I won't forget about it for another year.

Give me several good reasons I should be your friend. There is a bar. Answering in Japanese gets you extra points.

Hi Woeful, would you like to participate in the Library 2.0 Member survey I created for my Research Methods class?! It's not very long, and is mostly demographic and interest information. If you do, I would appreciate any comments you have about how I could improve it. Thanks, Julie

Hi, thanks for the add! From reading through your page, it seems I've found someone who has the technical knowledge that I lack. I hope you won't mind if I ask for your help in the future.
