Profile Information

Name of Your Library:
Oregon State Library
About Me:
I'm currently the Technology Development Consultant at the Oregon State Library. I oversee the implementation of Gates technology-related grants/programs and our statewide database licensing program. However, my primary focus is the Plinkit project -- a free web-hosting service we provide to public libraries using the open source content management software, Plone. I also provide assistance as needed to other states deploying Plinkit for their public libraries
Library Website:

What is Your Interest in Library 2.0 (not yes or no)
Plinkit is all about Web 1.0 -- providing small libraries that have little or no web presence with a great website. Because Plinkit is based on Plone, the possibilities beyond Web 1.0 are infinite so keep an eye out for future Plinkit developments! :-)

In the near term, I want to experiment with using the RSS feeds from del.icio.us to "create content" for all Plinkit site -- mostly around various "subject guides" based on web resources.

The way I envisioning this working is that reference librarians from around Oregon could tag items with previously agreed tags (e.g. "consumer-information") along with a Plinkit-specific tag; Plinkit websites will display all the items tagged for Plinkit Subject Guides on a per topic bases via RSS feeds. The ultimate effect will be a statewide collaboration of web resources automatically distributed across all Plinkit websites :-)

For those of you who haven't heard of Plone before, it's an open source content management system. It's incredibly easy for end-users (e.g. content editors, publishers, etc) to use but can be a bit challenging to… Continue
