Name of Your Library:
Regis University Libraries
About Me:
I am the Distance Learning Library at Regis University, Denver, CO. I spend a lot of my time doing library instruction online or at distance campuses along the Front Range. Recent projects include setting up a course specific blog and creating animated tutorials using Captivate. Although I participate in different online social networking sites, and enjoy all things library 2.0, I spend most of my time online working on my netlabel BuckramBeats, or enjoying the offerings from other netlabels.

What is Your Interest in Library 2.0 (not yes or no)
Regis University has a large online and distance student population. It doesn't take a genius to see how Web 2.0 and Library 2.0 technologies could help enhance the educational experience for these studetns (and all students for that matter). Like many of you, I face the challenge of finding the best ways to integrate social software programs into the library. Each library is unique, and each librarian brings to the table diverse skills, so implementing blogs or wikis or other social software is not the question, but rather how to do it best for your community of users.

A course specific blog

We are continuing to develop the course specific blog we set up for the ED205 Adult Learning class. This class is offered online and on campus. One of the blog goals is to provide a space where all ED205 students can interact and share. In keeping with the spirit of library 2.0, we are allowing students to register as author's and submit posts, in addittion to submitting comments w/o login.

We have also added two tutorials that explain site navigation, as well as how to submit posts and… Continue

Adult learners and Library 2.0

I've been noticing that much of the literature about Library 2.0 talks about the millenial generation, extending library service to meet digital natives in their own environment. However, our situation here is a bit different. We have a huge adult distance student population, who in many ways is still unaware of Web 2.0 (and thus Library 2.0) We are undertaking a 2.0 project, having started a course specific blog for a class that is required for new adult students. I'm finding thaContinue

Hi Paul,
Yay, another fellow librarian/musician! After I'm done with my MLS this semester I'll have time to start making music again. I checked out your web site--very cool. And very different from what I do. Which would make for an interesting collaboration!

Hi Paul, Not sure if I am suppose to post my response here or go to your page and respond...hmm..... Yes, here at Capella the set up used to be similar. Capella contracted with the library entrepreneurial project through Johns Hopkins Univeristy through January 2007. The library had its own database subscriptions so that didn't change.

But starting in January, Capella brought the library in-house and hired 10 librarians. We are all new on the job and providing reference, ILL, etc. and working to figure out the next ways to proceed in terms of instruction and services.

I am interested as well into your ideas about adult learners and Web 2.0 stuff.Delete Comment
