Still in a whirlwind

One gets sidetracked!

I have implemented EZProxy and ditched the RPA.
I am adding new dbs so I can't say this is really done.

I have struggled and struggled to finally get my HIP admin client fixed.
Stupid Java 1.6!

I finally found out there's an ipac mailing list, thanks to Dave's comment!

I joined CODI.

I made completely new websites using CSS for our dbs.The site design was a little old (10 years!)

Now to get Google Analytics fu… Continue

Currently...

... I need to learn much more about EZProxy asap.

I also need to change some things in our HIP but so far my education has not lead me there yet. I am still trying to learn a lot of basic things about Horizon.

I wish there were a Horizon Users Group that I didn't have to pay to join!

Ok, so I ran a simple SQL script and fixed a problem we were having with blank block screens in Horizon. Thank goodness for SQL Bloodbank!

I also made a query to get all the titles we have in Polish for one of our nuns. There may have been an easier way to do it but I couldn't figure it out, and apparently, we don't catalog these things in any consistent kind of way so I was searching on tags for 008, 041, and 966. What a blast from the past, looking at MARC records! I guess I'll becom

I have a new job!

I am excited! I am a bit overwhelmed!

These are the things I've taught myself in the past couple of weeks:

Basic SQL (online tutorials)
The fact that Horizon is an application using an MS SQL Server database
What the IP addresses for our domain are
How to start and stop some services on a server
How to use backup tapes on our server
How to run a couple of ad hoc reports
Somewhat about proxy servers
Subbed to what relevant lists I could find

Yay -- great to see another Horizon sys admin on Ning :-)

Have you managed to join the Horizon or IPAC mailing lists yet? There's some real HIP experts on the IPAC mailing list (seriously, they know more about HIP than SD support does!).

I've made a few 2.0 tweaks to our HIP (http://webcat.hud.ac.uk), so feel to give me a shout if you've got any questions.

We've also just started using Ezproxy, although I've not tried to integrate it with HIP or Horizon yet.
