Interest in Library 2.0
I'm trying to figure out if it needs figuring out.
I think K.G. Schneider's "The User Is Not Broken: A meme masquerading as a manifesto" is an important statement. I consider it my vision statement for at least the next 6 months.

HTML and MySpace, Ning, and Facebook

I've been playing around with how different Web 2.0 sites handle HTML. What I've found so far is:

  • Facebook doesn't take much, if any. I can't get forms to work.
  • Myspace takes forms, but I can't copy in a favicon
  • Ning doesn't take the form tag. I got it to take the link tag and I got my favicon to work for about two seconds, but as soon as I reloaded the page Ning sripped it out.

MySpace Backgrounds and Web 0.25

I had an interesting experience on campus today when I remarked to our webmaster that whoever was running our campus MySpace page had an ugly background. It is a tiled picture of our mascot logo. The logo itself I kinda like, but tiled as a background? It was very Web 0.25. He repeated my comments to whoever was responsible for it in the Admissions office to which I received an email that it "might not appeal to us elders" but we had lots friends ... yada yada yada.

I hear you, bro. Others here have installations of Evergreen and Koha going, but we don't see anyone out there doing the customizations needed to make them viable options. We certainly don't have the expertise in-house. We're resigned to remaining wedded to Horizon, a thorough dead-end, for some time. We considered sending our sysadmin to NextGenILs in Boise but from what I gather from what Karen sent me that it's mostly a networking opportunity and not much else.

Hi Jim, I saw you quoted in the PTFS press release today on Marshall Breeding's site. I haven't found any mention at SOU or PTFS, though. Is SOU integrating Koha or Evergreen with ArchivalWare?
