My favorite social networking tools and services: ScribeFire

While not strictly a social networking tool, a big part of my social networking is blogging. I have used many different editors to create posts on my Blogger blogs. ScribeFire is the best editor I have found outside of t

My favorite social networking tools and services

I posted this on BabyBoomerLibrarian:My favorite social networking tools and services this afternoon.
I have been thinking about posting more about my favorite social networking tools and services. What I have decided to do is to write a series of posts about them. The posts will probably be short essays of no more than a few hundred words at the most. I will start here with a list of… Continue

Over 3000 members

Sometime in the past two weeks, Library 2.0 went over 3000 members. While I am well aware of the fact that many people just join and never return, that number is amazing to me. The community is also truly international in scope and membership. Here are the countries that have at least visited the network along with the number of visits (Google Analytics) since August 15, 2007: Country/Territory Visits United States 43798 United Kingdom 2818 Canada 2758 Australia 1897 India 1199 Netherlands 709… Continue

Social Networking Tools

I have been playing with Twitter (http://twitter.com/BillDrew4) again. I am beginning to find it useful. It has become more useful as I decrease the number of people I am following. I am also trying out FriendFeed (http://friendfeed.com/billdrew) which attempts to tie together all of my social networking. I am using Twhirl as a client for Twitter. It also works as a desktop cli… Continue

Library Director 2.0?

I have been appointed to serve as the Interim Library Director here at Tompkins Cortland Community College. It is an interesting time to do this as we are right in the middle of our renovation into part of the soon to be Learning Commons which will include tutorial services, academic computing administered computers, media center, and the library plus a coffee shop. I will be applying for the permanent position of library director. The Learning Commons will be jointly administered. It should be… Continue

The Community College Concept

As part of the application process for my current job, I was required to write a short essay on my view of the community college concept.

The Community College Concept

The concept of the community college in my view is to provide everyone with an opportunity for access to a quality education at an affordable pri

nine weeks at TC3!

I am closing in on the end of my ninth week at Tompkins Cortland Community College (TC3)!! I have decided that I am going to stay for awhile. Making the move was one of the hardest decisions I have ever made but I have no regrets. I had reached a point at Morrisville where I could not advance my career any farther. I was also getting a bit bored with what I was doing.

TC3 has presented me many new opportunities and a chance for more professional and personal growth. The biggest change i… Continue

Abstract: Modeling the role of blogging in librarianship

Stephens, Michael, Modeling the role of blogging in librarianship. Doctor of Philosophy (Information Science), August 2007, 187 pp., 47 tables, 6 figures, 134 references.

This phenomenological study examines the motivations and experiences of librarians who author professionally-focused Weblogs. The researcher constructed a model of librarianship based on Wilson and Buckland. The results show a close fit between librarian bloggers and the ideals of the field as

Last Day at Morrisville College Library

Tomorrow I start a new chapter in my life. I am starting a new job at Tompkins-Cortland Community College in Dryden, N.Y. For the past 21 years, 6 months and 15 days I have made a 90 mile round trip commute to Morrisville State College every work day. My commute now will be 14 miles round trip. I will not be posting much here or on my blog at http://babyboomerlibrarian.blogspot.com for the next couple of weeks. My calendar is packed full the rest of this week and most of next week with meetings… Continue

Back at work

I am back to work after a week's vacation at Lake George R.V. Park and Resort. My family and I had a wonderful time of swimming, walking, shopping, and just plain down time. I may post a couple of pictures later in the week. I am also in my last full week of work at Morrisville State College Libraries. On August 1, I start work at TC3 Library (Tompkins-Cortland Community College) where I started my college education back in 1972 after a stint in the… Continue

Plugoo and Privacy

I got a question yesterday on privacy issues with Plugoo. I sent the Plugoo people this message:

Where can I get a copy of your privacy policy? What logging do you do of conversations?

I got this very pleasant and quick response:
