interview situations

Question: How do you handle food situations (lunch or dinner) while you are in the interview stage for a library job?

I have an all-day job interview coming up, and would appreciate any advice or experiences other veg-librarians would be willing to share.

Thanks!
Jessica

That is a fascinating and practical question, Jessica! I haven't been in that situation personally, but I would think that it would be best to let the interview team know ahead of time that you do not eat meat, milk or cheese. That way, when they select restaurants they will know where to take you.

Or maybe you could say you eat veggie burgers(?)

Another idea is to say you only eat vegetables(?) However, that could be tricky, as (isn't this awful) most salads these days come with meat on top of them!

We know that salads don't fill you up (most non-vegans don't, and think we live on salads alone). If it were me I might be tempted to keep some things in my purse and excuse myself for a few minutes to eat them as the day progresses.

It's funny, you don't want to seem "weird" right off the bat with the people interviewing you, yet you want to work for a place that is open-minded enough to embrace your difference and admire you for your commitment. I think I talked myself into it - probably being up-front about it is best.

Best of luck to you in your interview, Jessica! Bonnie
