Mitchell Memorial Library, Mississippi State University
About Me:
I wear a lot of hats: reference and emerging technologies librarian, agriculture and forestry subject specialist, liaison to our Plant & Soil Sciences Dept as well as Ag & Bio Engineering, liaison to the Extension and Experiment station folks, etc.

I'm from Mississippi, but I spent 15 years "up north" working as a mystery editor, hedge fund marketer, and serials processing staff member at MIT. I received my MLIS from Simmons College Graduate School for Library and Information Science in 2005 and then began work at MSU.

My current research focus is on social networking tools as used in academia, including blogs as grey literature and wikis in academic microcommunities.

Interest in Library 2.0
I specialize in applying emerging technologies to public services. I manage the Libraries' Facebook presence, CHAT, teach staff training, lead the Library 2.0 Committee, and chair our MS Library 2.0 Summit--coming June 20, 2008.

I have taught staff training workshops on myspace, IM, wikis, and podcasting. In our 2.0 Workshop series, sponsored by our Library 2.0 Committee, we are also offering staff training on Facebook, blogging and RSS feeds, and more to come...

We are currently working on ways to institutionalize the introduction of new 2.0 technology services in our Libraries, and we have successfully launched a Facebook and Flickr presence for the Libraries.

Wow! The MS Library 2.0 Summit happened and it was great!

On Friday June 15, Mississippi State University Libraries hosted our first (and from the response it looks like there will be a second) MS Library 2.0 Summit. Michael Stephens was the keynote, and he blew everyone away. The evaluations were full of comments like "best library presentation ever heard!" Our breakout sessions were wonderful--lots of terrific ideas to steal from everyone. And we've blogged lots of them on our Summit blog:

T minus 2 days from the MS Lib 2 Summit!

We're down to the wire...packed house...speakers in route....programs being revised...dinners being arranged and re-arranged. We're working on turning the conference website into an archive of the conference itself--and trying to create community around it with the blog (which seems to crash more than any blog I've ever known), podcasts of the sessions, ppts and handouts uploaded, lib 2.0 resources, and an attempt at a Facebook group. We've got an Event on Facebook, but getting approval for an o… Continue

We're full!

Registration closed two weeks early for the MS Library 2.0 Summit (http://library.msstate.edu/mslibrarysummit) due to an overflow crowd! We're still taking people on a wait list and hoping for a miracle. It's orientation that weekend, so other venues are full...

Also the Agenda is posted under "Whens"--why I don't know. :)

Yay!

I would love to come. I am new @ this job though so I'll have to do some asking of the boss. I'll have to look up the info! Thanks for mentioning it. I'll let you know!

Thanks! It's still a little mugshot-ish. Did you see the new feature of _Nature_ that uses RSS? You could put it on your sciences page... (http://www.crossref.org/CrossTech/2007/03/newlook_web_feeds_from_nature.html)

I don't know if there's an easier way to respond than going back to the chatter page -- let me know. I also usually have my IM accounts open, if you'd like.

The play sounds wonderful! Congratulations. I'm sorry you'll miss ye olde conference, though. I have every sympathy. I missed our big January concert because of ALA m'winter.

We're using meebo to offer IM services + a open box on our page that people w/o IM can use. I haven't tried groupwise. I've been using, personally, mostly gtalk & yahoo! (holdover from MIT). I prefer the client model to the web-page model, but many of my colleagues prefer to use meebo all of the time.

Well, you know me, the invisible woman!

It is hard to keep track of the 2.0 realm. How are you planning to use IM? Are you going to ACRL, btw?
