About Me:
My job at ACRL is to seek out interesting content and research that academic librarians are doing and to get those people to share their fine work through books, podcasts, white papers, and learning events. My title is Content Strategist.
I've been a librarian since 1977. Sometime in the late 1980's I became an organizational development consultant and trainer. I still facilitate and do organizational consulting for all types of libraries. My areas of expertise are: strategic planning, innovation and creativity, coaching, leadership, and change.

Interest in Library 2.0
I find the principles of L2 to be important to the future of user happiness and capability. There are very creative and innovative things happening in libraries that have adopted an L2 perspective. I am also interested in the management and leadership issues arising from shifting a library to an L2 perspective.

We aren't there yet...

I was very surprised when I looked at the Clusty Cloud on the L2 Ning main page! The largest tag is "librarian." (I wish I didn't have to type it here as it will only add to the largesse.) This is quite alarming to me! Take a look at the word "patron." It is infintesimal. What does this mean?

Why is it that our concerns continue to revolve around us and our internal workings? Even when they are on behalf of the patrons they are still about us! Why isn't our every other word "patron" "us… Continue

Read your "About Me" section and got a hunch your knowledge and experience can REALLY come in handy! I'm currently an MLIS student in Los Angeles (CA) and recently became a member of ACRL.

Good to meet you, Kathryn! :)

" I am also interested in the management and leadership issues arising from shifting a library to an L2 perspective." I, too, am especially interested in this aspect of libraries becoming "flattened communities" in which the users and patrons decide what lifelong learning or information learning is important. Today, collaborative interconnective communites are becoming the norm. Change is happening at an expoential level. We need to find a balance in new technologies and historical artifacts and a new paradigm in management.

Hello Kathryn, thank you. I'm very interested in your role. I'm exploring how Web 2.0 has the potential to transform relationships between librarians, IT and our customers/users/patrons/partners/colleagues/teachers/learners
We are all of these.....
