A medium-sized public library in medium-sized metropolitan community.
About Me:
I work for a public library with the graphics department and collection development. Love library programs, graphic design, old books, Car Talk and Wait Wait Don't Tell Me.
Hi, Gail,
Thanks for the welcome.
Our shop is an AFSCME shop; I have been part of the local after I was moved from management into the unit 23 years ago. About 15 years ago I ran for treasurer and have managed not to be nominated for any other office (!)
I have been on both sides of the negotiating table.

Hi Gail, would you like to participate in the Library 2.0 Member survey I created for my Research Methods class?! It's not very long, and is mostly demographic and interest information. If you do, I would appreciate any comments you have about how I could improve it. Thanks, Julie Click Here to take survey
Hi Gail,
Wow - you're fast! I think I only joined about an hour before you commented. Thanks for the welcome.
I think the single most important quality I brought from my eight years as a reference librarian was my customer focus. I concentrated more on high quality customer service than anything else, and that has translated perfectly in my new role as "marketing and outreach" person. I was used to trying to listen to my customer's needs, and make quick decisions in meeting those needs when the situation called for it.
We're just starting to try to identify fun and innovative marketing and promotion techniques. Do you have any fun stories to share?
Hi Gail,
Thanks for the invite. I'm a huge fan of all types of traditional music. Irish music goes to my very soul. I feel like it takes me back to my ancestral roots.
Irish music? Have your heard of Altan? They were one of my favorites when I went through my Celtic music phase. Truly lovely stuff; heartbreaking and hopeful at the same time. Ah, the good old days!
You sound like a perfect candidate for the Creative Librarians group. Think about it.
Hi Gail!
Thanks for posting to my page. You are my first visitor! Thanks for your kinds words and sharing your experience with those programs. I've spoken in the past with another programming librarian about how programming librarians don't seem to network - and they really should. Everyone else in our profession does, right?
Thanks again,
Ann
Hi, Gail, no - that is a screen shot of my Second Life avatar. She does somewhat resemble me, but ... much funkier and cares more about how she looks. ;)

My cats are Sphynx cats. Sorry I haven't checked in here too often and just saw your message. I'll check out the author you mentioned.
Thanks!

I love your profile, by the way. Welcome home?
