About Me:
I am the Information Services/Interlibrary Loan Librarian here at Purchase. I recently moved here (Westchester County New York) from Boston, MA where I got my MLIS at Simmons College in May '06, while working as the Serials Specialist at Wheelock College Library. I am originally from Mystic, CT. I have a BA in English from UCONN and an MA in English from URI. My library interests range from delivery systems, access services, reference and bibliographic instruction, as well as all things related to communication, marketing and promotion.
Interest in Library 2.0
I'm interested in all the potential that Library 2.0 has. It is about thinking creatively and broadly about how to connect with colleagues, as well as figuring out how to involve our patrons in "conversations" we are constantly engaged in, whether it be in person, virtually, indirectly, in real-time or in some other way. The possiblities are endless and we need to be at the forefront of what is happening. The definition of library is changing so fast we don't even really have time to redefine it, it has become something much more amorphous.

OCLC! and ILLiad follow up

So, it makes it very hard to come back from a conference to find that OCLC has problems with most of their systems, making it impossible for me to do any work today. Not good when you need to catch up. So, if you are faced with the same problems today . . . I feel your pain. Not very 2.0 friendly really! Well, at least not today.

So the ILLiad conference was good. I went to sessions on how to manage my overdues in ILLiad, how to face working with ILLiad from a Taoist perspecti…

OCLC ILLiad International Conference and a 2.0 question.

Well, I'm down here in Virginia Beach for the ILLiad Conference. The weather is in the high 70s and my hotel is beachside with an ocean view and a balcony! A lot better than dreary New York. Tomorrow will be more of the same. The conference starts tomorrow morning. If I hear of any cool 2.0 stuff I'll pass it along.

Here is a question for you. I am part of our library's Communication Working Group and agreed to take on organizing workshops to promote different kinds of services the lib…

Not my news but really cool.

So, I'm wondering if anyone has heard of this. One of my colleagues is applying for a grant to integrate this technology that allows classes to take a survey in class with hand held remote devices to submit their answers. She is collaborating with a Psych professor who is already using it and has had great success with it. She wants to get the service so it is available for any faculty member to use anywhere on campus. Cross your fingers and hope she gets the grant! I know this really isn't new… Continue

Changing photos and sharing information

So today I figured out how to change my image on this site, so now you can actually see my face . . . or part of it . . .

I also spent the morning with a colleague that has just started using the ILLiad software we use here at Purchase. I have to say, I enjoy those times when I can sit down with someone and share information that will make a difference in what they are doing at their library. I love to help out and collaborate. So I showed her how we use the software and she was able t…

Sometimes Library 2.0 has to be put on hold . . .

Reminder to self: Eating lunch at your desk is not necessarily conducive to engaging in Library 2.0 activities.

Yes, sometimes it can be good when you need to multi-task. But you would have thought I learned when I spilled cream of broccoli soup on my keyboard about two weeks ago and spent an hour popping off the keys and cleaning it all up. Then answer, sadly, is no. Today it was Snapple grapeade. I thought the cap was on and I grabbed it an gave it a "quick shake" before taking a dri…

Thanks for stopping by. I am ex-SUNY (not a judgment, just a connection). Also, we just brought ILLiad into NYPL so I am interested in your impression. I think it is offers great features, if your staff can support it. Funny how even lightening the workload with options like trusted senders means more humans behind the scenes.

Welcome to Library 2.0. Nice to see another SUNY librarian here. Sometimes I wonder if there is any interest within SUNY libraries in Library 2.0.
